with surprise cut on center ... after the success of the first release, tanstaafl returns for their second wax adventure, this time with the musical renegade dj october at the helm. october has entered a new phase of production for the tanstaafl series and has focused himself firmly on a reduced, stripped and effective formula for the floor. his productions are heavy, smoked out narcoleptic dub infused journeys, and his latest 12 offers more or less of the same opaque vibe but with his sights firmly set on the floor, with one foot in the past and the other in the future - drawing from his usual detroit, nyc and chicago influences. so we kick off 2012 with a future classic, singularity jump, which douses you in synthesized saxophone hooks, chopped vocal samples and a meaty juno hip-house inspired bass-line.planet of minds is more of a inner space affair very much inspired by acid and dub. successfully combining the two, october injects more of an airy feel into the mix and delivers a moody cosmic acid jam that will not fail your dancing feet or tripped-out mind. definitely one for the later hours.this is going to be an anthem, hands down, so get it before its gone for good.

tresor records marks its 250th release with a very special project indeed. continuing to forge ahead whilst remaining ever mindful of its legacy, tresor proudly presents infiniti - the remixes: a trilogy of classic cuts and new reworks from one of its original detroit linchpins juan atkins. dubbed as his pure techno project, atkins produced two full-length albums under the infiniti moniker-the infiniti collection, released by tresor in 1996, and skynet two years later. 16 years on and they are as relevant today as they were pioneering then, brought further up-to-date here with a series of fresh takes from some of technos pioneering and esteemed figures: thomas fehlmann, tv victor, function, redshape, sleeparchive and the re-release of dubtechno vanguard moritz von oswalds remix of >think quick<, originally released in 94 on metroplex. part two picks up the pace, heading further down the timeline with >flash flood< - originally released in 1995 as part of one of the labels famous annual compilations, re-edited by sandwell districts function. skynets punchy classic on the flip, >skyway< rounds off the ep with a killer old-school remix by technos masked crusader redshape.

dancing time: the best of eastern nigerias afro rock exponents 1973 – 77 by the funkees mines the rich musical output of 60s and 70s nigeria. for the 5 year period this compilation spans the funkees output crackled with dance floor fire.
having featured on three of soundways most popular titles, across the definitive nigeria special compilation series, soundway felt the funkees output deserved closer inspection. presented here are 16 slices of funky afro-rock grooves hand picked by soundways miles cleret from a selection of the bands 45s and 2 long players.

brand new project out of italy from obtanes francesco baudazzi ! features printed insert in clear poly bag francesco baudazzi, sometimes known as obtane amongst other secretive pseudonyms, is an electro-acoustic sound artist hailing from the tyrrhenian coast between la spezia and carrara on the west coast of italy and is renowned for producing truly dark atmospheric and droning conceptual music, enlivened with subtle, spacious field recordings and analogue synthesis. running the highly regarded zooloft recordings alongside giorgio gigli for the last five years. francesco has managed to create a highly respected sound dipping heavily into drone and industrial techniques, whilst retaining the truly hypnotic sound of early italian electronic music. making guest appearances away from his zooloft imprint label under his obtane monicker on labels such as synewave, sonic groove and strobescopic artefacts. surface welcome francescos first release under his birth name, for part two of the surface limited series focusing on the diversity that artists have to offer away from the constraints of their expected roles amongst the scene

this next instalment of psychemagiks edit series is a two sided journey through the cosmos and back down to earth. first on the countdown screen is way milky. leading the inter-play between instruments is a deep hypnotic bass that creates a throbbing atmosphere for spacy 70s keys and inter-galactic sound effects. hiding in the background are funky drums and a lead guitar that dons a space suit goes exploring. ready for blast off? side b. make it mellow, >make it mellow< is that warm-you-through balearic bliss that this dynamic duo are masters of. a delicious edit, this encapsulates the sound of a lazy summer afternoon. spacy synths and guitars interwoven throughout, the searingly syncopated solo shines in the spotlight. complemented by chunky bass and soothing vocals that ease their way into your head, this epic summery edit rounds off this b side beautifully.

our second vinyl release 2012 introduces a new series, the bias jams, on ilian tape. we start off with a compilation of 4 tracks from japan, serbia, argentina and italy. after some internal investigations we found out that imugem orihasam is not only a japanese shaolin, but also a yoga guru. his bias cut sounds like an instruction for a deep meditation in a forest. we chose a forest, because forests need to be saved. too many black puffs of vapour are killing them at the moment. our late riser regen probably didnt had that a mind, but we declare him to be an environmental activist from now on. now how should we include paper tape in this story … had a look online and found the term perforated paper tape. pretty interesting stuff, it was one of the first methods for data storage. ok are you guys joking? orbital? there is no way to write a good story with those track names. >an atomic orbital is a mathematical function that describes the wave-like behavior of either one electron or a pair of electrons in an atom<. yeah right! well in fact its enough to know that the bias jams series will feature some heavy bomboclaat bias cuts from various artists! cheers

the german based label kitty corner records turns back the wheel and starts a new series of fresh experimental techno music. the opening track hachzem from bristols kanji kinetic comes with storming mutant basslines and rave stabs collide over a thumping techno beat. for battle creek brawl rrritalin and cynthia stern take it back to 92 with pitched up rap vocals over a prodigy style breakbeat hardcore track.spacefaces hands of a lunatik is frenetic and crazy wonky techno, while lukes anger rounds off the ep with the robotic 909 warehouse beats of throwing switches.

amplified is back with the second part of the acclaimed disco in distress series. this time whizzkid quell is joining in the action delivering a stunning deep house gemm in glengoyne! lay-far once again shows his talent for deep ‘n slow disco vibes. gimme is the heat. nicholas needs no introduction anymore. after killer singles on 4lux last year and a remarkable series of nu groove takes, he here delivers a very strong and original disco-gospel tune called blessing. last but not least we introduce you to the wonderful world of australian producer sellouts who comes with telling everybody a long and mesmerizing disco nugget. a real headnodder!

prime numbers returns with a series of remixes of trus me favourites, including treatments from a host of current cherished producers. the 12 inch features the mdr records duo marcel dettmann & norman nodge. dettmann takes a diversion from his more familiar techno blueprint, working sweetmother into a tight house groove. intensifying all parts of the original he creates an insistent and deeply pressured production. on the flip good god gets dubbed & smudged into a beguiling ghostly haze. nodge completely reworks the mix stripping back & filtering the elements to fantastic effect. watch out for remixes from terrence dixon & dvs1 on part 2 in this series

for correspondant 06, we have invited another french producer who comes from paris and calls himself offset. after a series of jazz/funk projects, offset found his calling with electronic music. >gazoline< is the title track and its a straight dance floor burner that crawled under our skin on the first listen. >subversive< is proof that slow can be dark, groovy, powerful, and sexy all at the same time, and >addicted< has a taste of trance just the way we like it, not too much, but just enough.
supported by maetrik, karrotte, chloe, ewan pearson, ivan smagghe, the hacker ...

for the boxer jubilee, we have organised a top-class heavyweight fight: martin eyerer, head of kling klong, and florian meindl, chief of flash recordings, have entered into the boxing ring for a two-round title fight: in the first round, >the rush< — supported by tactical advice given by the trainer — is a fast and merciless series of left jabs followed by sappy, powerful uppercuts and hooks that leave the opponent completely unprotected. gong after a short break, the referees gives the command box, and the showdown starts again: >slow groover< is as light-footed as muhammad ali at his best: always on its toes, full of grace, and with surprising and powerful left-right punch combinations that often end up in a clinch. and with resounding applause, a technically ambitious two-round fight is over, and there are no losers, only winners. so, raise your fist, get your boxing belt on, and meet you on the dance floor…

next up on frustrated funks limited vinyl series is italian producer and visual artist federico leocata. this young producers sound aesthetics can easily be compared with dataphysix style of production with its snappy, minimal and dark characteristics (who knows what their real connection might be). but when looking a bit further federico manages to create a world of its own where unpleasant, obscure and sinister sounding tracks bring you in a dark imaginary world of ropes, burning leather and foggy torture chambers. this is the second ff release in this series of limited hand numbered and hand stamped colored vinyl 12s.first come first serve.

not only is this ep gerry reads debut association with delsin, but so too does it mark the launch of a new house-focussed series from the dutch imprint.

having lain out it s darkened techno vision with the epic and enthralling inertia compilation over the last few months, delsin s little sister, ann aimee, is back. back with another bang, this time from mysterious vault series associate sawlin who drops four cuts of grainy, scratchy sounds with his techno dumping ep.

christian smiths tronic label enjoyed a fantastic year in 2011, persistently receiving plaudits from the media, scene tastemakers and the record buying public for the labels consistently first-rate output that consisted of a genre-blurring mixture of tech house and progressive flavoured techno floor-smashing grooves. since meeting in berlin during summer of 2011, christian smith and florian meindl have stuck up a productive studio partnership. having released their first collaboration - desire - via meindls flash imprint in december, this subsequent ep for tronic sees the duo take their corporation a stage further with a two tracks of slightly left of centre yet unashamedly peak-time tech house. mothership leads off the ep with a distinctive retro-electro bassline that builds into the main hook via a series of peaks and drops before taking off into a tweaked crescendo of high-pitched tones. red alert opts for a subtler approach, creating its simple but effective groove from jacking percussion and wobbly synth stabs, which pulse throughout, morphing to distorting and echoing in the break.

ostgut ton launches a sublabel that will feature remixes of tracks that have been released on the motherlabel ostgut ton, unterton will also release other ostgut ton related or befriended artists and one-off projects. the releases are presented as stamped white labels with track details only. tobias. makes the start of the remix series with two of the tracks from his >leaning over backwards< album, the a-side sees efdemin remixing the title track >leaning over backwards< and on the b-side ricardo villalobos and max loderbauer give >girts< the remix treatment.

the album is very well-received, and their talents for combining gloomy synths and crisp drum pads with atmospheric guitars and sparklingly fresh melodies mark that giana factory have found a sound that is entirely theirs - that here were three women, who do their own, unique thing. adding on to this is a monthly 7inch vinyl series containing a track from the album

luca lozano presents klsunderground001 is klasse recordings first foray into the various artists compilation field, a small but perfectly formed ep consisting of five tracks from various family members and extended homeboys. the idea behind the series is to take the focus back to the music, the ep aims to concentrate on tracks that are made with passion, pride and belief. music that will stand the test of time against the torrent of seemingly endless throwaway material that floods our inbox day by day. the tracks on the ep speak for themselves, so i will do away with the usual wacky metaphors and just urge you to give them a listen. thanks goes to mr. ho, red axes, viadrina, jordan peak and anders hellberg for providing the music and a special thanks goes to the latter three for joining the klasse family and being part of our new series. enjoy the music and thanks for listening. - luca lozano

mutex recordings are back on wax with fluid ep from unbalance. this guy put out one of the most decent productions in 2011 with his white-labeled unbalance series and definitely is one of the artists to watch for in 2012. his music is an incredible collage of everything you love in techno: thick groove, detroit-styled chords and spooky futuristic effects. argentinas techno hope jonas kopp on remix duties completes the release with his unique recognizable straight-to-the-dancefloor material that really kicks ass! this one is a record that shouldnt be missed!

south american label woods n bass unveils its new vinyl-only imprint, woods n bass limited, with wet feet by will azada and piltdown sound. the title track, wet feet, is a forward-looking slice of tribal minimalism that encapsulates the ethos of the label with its dubbed-out, winding hook, thoroughly drenched in dirt and brooding overtones. on the flip, piltdown sound goes solo with rbml, a detroit-esque piece that relentlessly works the floor with its twisted organ and chord stabs trading places for dominance. tying up the release, will azada amplifies the sleaze-factor with the driven bass and tweaked synths of slangin low. living up to its name, wet feet, is just the beginning for woods n bass and its new vinyl series, and promptly received enthusiastic support from influential global techno tastemakers raiz, seph, jeroen search, samuli kemppi, and detroit techno militia to name a few.
